16 escape with minor injuries in Butterworth express bus accident

BUTTERWORTH: An express bus driver and 15 passengers escaped with minor injuries when the bus they were in skidded at Km5.5 of the Butterworth Outer Ring Road (BORR) highway, heading towards Bagan Ajam here early this morning.

The Butterworth Fire and Rescue station was alerted to the incident about 4.19am and the first engine arrived two minutes later.

Operation commander Mohd Faisol Zainudin said, when they arrived at the scene, they found the MARA LINER bus had skidded and overturned.

He said there were 16 people, including 10 women, inside.

“None of them were trapped in the seats. They were helped out from the vehicle by firemen who arrived at the scene.

“All of them only escaped with minor injuries and were given first aid by paramedics who arrived at the scene,” Faisol said today, adding the victims were taken to the Seberang Jaya Hospital for further treatment.

The case was handed over to police, and the rescue operation was completed at 5.29am.
