KOTA KINABALU: The High Court here sentenced a man to death by hanging for trafficking in 1746.8 grams of syabu.
Ang Eng Khong, 39, was found guilty by Judicial Commissioner Amelati Parnell after she held that the defence failed to raise reasonable doubt against the prosecution’s case.
Ang committed the offence on Oct 31, 2018, at Taman Awam Teluk Likas, here at 4.30pm.
He was convicted under Section 39B (1) (a), punishable under Section 39B (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 carries the death sentence or imprisonment for life and whipping, upon conviction.
The prosecution was conducted by Deputy public prosecutor (DPP) Azreen Yas Mohamad Ramli while counsel Luke Ressa Balang represented the accused.
Nine witnesses testified against Ang at the prosecution stage while the accused was the sole witness during his defence.
