14-year-old girl missing in Ipoh, family say she’s been gone since mid-December

IPOH: A 14-year-old girl has been missing for nearly two months, with her family urging for her safe return.

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Yahaya Hassan said the Vietnamese, identified as Mai Yen Thuy, left home without her parent’s permission last Dec 18.

“Her stepfather attempted to find his daughter by himself at first, hence why he only lodged the police report recently. He believed Mai had run away with her boyfriend.

“According to him, Mai contacted them in mid-January, but didn’t tell them her whereabouts,” he said on Wednesday (Feb 8).

Comm Yahaya said this was the third time that Mai had gone missing.

“The first time was in September last year, when she was gone for eight days, and then for six days in October. She was found both times in Ipoh.

“Her parents don’t know who her friends are, but according to them, she is also quite sociable.

“Her stepfather doesn’t know what she was wearing before she left the house because he was working in Kuala Lumpur on the same day,” he said.

Those with information about Mai may contact Sgt Sulaiman Shapie at 013 523 2296 or the Ipoh police district office at 05 245 1500.
