SUNGAI SIPUT – A drug rehabilitation centre warden was seen sobbing after he was brought to the Sungai Siput magistrate court today for murder charges.
He was charged for murdering a man who was a resident of the centre last week.
Nur Aslam Faizal, 35, could not hold back his tears after the charges were read out in front of Magistrate Nurul Asyifa Redzuan.
The father of three children and a trainer at the centre Suffian Effendy Kadri 30, were jointly charged for murdering Mohd Ali Mohd Nor, 50.
The offence was allegedly committed at Perlok Narcotics Addiction Rehabilitation Centre (Puspen) here at approximately 10.30am on Jan 31, 2023.
They were charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same law, which provides for the death penalty if convicted.
No confession was recorded from both of the accused and they admitted to understanding the charges read.
The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor R. S. Vitthiyeswary, while Suffian Effendy was unrepresented.
Nur Aslam was represented by lawyer Keshviner Singh, who requested the court to allow the accused to meet his family members for the reason that he had not met them for a long time since his arrest.
The court then allowed the accused to meet family members including his mother for five minutes in the courtroom.
The court had set April 10 for the trial.
The accused was previously remanded for seven days to assist police investigations after results of the autopsy confirmed that the victim’s injuries were due to being hit by a blunt object.
