Cops nab ex-convict for robbery in PJ

PETALING JAYA: Police have arrested a repeat offender after he robbed a convenience shop with an air gun.

At a press conference here on Friday (Feb 10), Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid said a report was lodged after a robbery on Jan 24.

The suspect had pretended to buy prepaid top-ups before taking out an air gun to threaten a worker there.

“The suspect ran off with RM250 in cash and escaped on a motorcycle. The air gun was also fired and a plastic bullet hit the worker on the lip,” he said.

On Feb 2, police raided a house in Kuala Lumpur, leading to the arrest of a 30-year-old man.

Among the items seized included a silver air gun that resembled a revolver, and five identity cards belonging to various people.

Investigations showed that the suspect had just been released from prison in January after serving time for robbery.

“He was found to be involved in three similar robberies in the Petaling Jaya area. With his arrest we have solved four robbery cases in the district,” ACP Mohamad Fakhrudin said.

In an unrelated case, police also busted a gang of vehicle thieves.

On Feb 3, a lorry was reported missing within the Mutiara Damansara area.

GPS tracking on the vehicle saw its last location in Penang at 2.15pm the same day.

“Based on information gathered, a police team arrested two suspects aged 27 and 28 at a bus stop in Jalan Persiaran Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin in Kuala Lumpur.

“A third suspect was arrested on Feb 4 in Bandar Puchong Jaya. Questionings led to the discovery that the group had stolen two vehicles in the Petaling Jaya area,” he said.

After questioning the suspects, police recovered a car and van that were reported missing in January.

A fourth member of the group is still at large and being sought by police.

“The other three have been handed over to Shah Alam police for their investigation of cases in the district,” ACP Mohamad Fakhrudin added.
